About Aikido
Aikido is a Japanese Martial Art created during the 1920s by Morihei Ueshiba (1883~1969), an expert who reached the highest level of mastery in the classical Japanese Martial Arts. Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. Aikido has not competition. The goal of Aikido training is not perfection of a step or skill, but rather improving one's character according to the rules of nature.
About Yamabiko-kai
Yamabiko-kai was founded in November, 2021, with the passion for aikido and the aspiration to be better through practices.
In our practices, we focus on the basics, following Seishiro Endo Shihan’s aikido.
The origin of the name of Yamabiko-kai
Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido, stated that aikido completes when you master ‘yamabiko no michi.’
The word of ‘yamabiko (山彦)’ is often found in the founder’s doka, a poem on aikido in a Japanese traditional style.
e.g. 天地に気結びなして中に立ち心構えは山彦の道
Yamabiko means echo, the sound that returns from a mountain when you say yahoo to it.
Like the echo, aikido focuses on harmonizing with and responding to your partner flexibly without competing.
Therefore, anyone can start it regardless of age, gender and physique.
Everyone is welcome, as a lot of female members are practicing with us. Why not come see us andor try aikido?
